Personalizing with Patches
Max: 12 people | 90 minutes
Cost: $40 with your own item to personalize, $50 including a canvas bag

Give your clothing and accessories new life with patches!

The most sustainable (and cheapest!) things are the ones we already own. But whether it’s a gem we found digging through the thrift store racks, an old favorite we spilled a latte on, or some cringey swag we got from a work retreat, sometimes our old faves need a bit of new life. Patches are a quick and easy way to cover stains, mend holes, or just make an item more “you.” And luckily, Dear Ollie has a fantastic selection of patches that are just the right amount of irreverent for you to choose from.

There are two options to choose from:

Option 1: Join with Your Own *Item
Got something in mind already in your closet? Bring it and personalize it with a patch. Learn about patch placement, technique, and how to personalize it further with embroidery and fabric scraps. Leave with the skills to make your items new again and keep them in your closet.

*Acceptable items include sturdy fabrics such as hats, beanies, canvas totes/bags, denim, or sweatshirts. Stretchy or thin fabrics such as sweaters or tees aren’t recommended.

Option 2: Include a Canvas Pouch in the Price
No items to personalize just yet? We’ve got you! Enroll in class and get a canvas pouch included in the price, perfect to stash your favorite pens. You’ll learn the skills above and leave with something completely unique that makes you smile every time you find it in the bottom of your favorite tote bag.

Get an introduction to the world of visible mending and personalization while we take ourselves, and our patches, decidedly unseriously.

In Personalizing with Patches, you'll learn skills such as:

  • Identifying items that will take well to patches

  • Learning how to safely and properly apply an iron-on patch.

  • Adjusting for larger stains/rips with basic stitches and fabric scraps.

  • Covering smaller stains and personalizing patches with embroidery floss.

  • Each attendee will choose two patches to use during the workshop and/or apply at home.
